About Tennessee outage data
What ODIN is
The Outage Data Initiative Nationwide collects outage counts that utilities choose to share. Oak Ridge National Laboratory runs it for the U.S. Department of Energy.
Meters, not people
ODIN counts meters out of service. One meter is usually one home or business, not one person.
Not every utility reports
Tennessee has dozens of electric utilities. Only those that publish a feed or report to ODIN can appear here.
Tennessee power outage questions
How many people are without power in Tennessee right now?
35 meters were out across Tennessee utilities reporting to ODIN, the outage system run by Oak Ridge National Laboratory as of 11:05 pm ET on Oct 1. The most were at Nashville Electric Service, with 18.
How many Tennessee utilities are covered?
Every Tennessee utility that reports to ODIN, plus eleven utilities read directly from their own outage maps: KUB, NES, MLGW, Middle Tennessee Electric, Volunteer Energy Cooperative, Appalachian Electric Cooperative, Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative, Gibson EMC, Holston Electric Cooperative, Upper Cumberland EMC and Tri-County EMC.
What does "meters out" mean?
The number of electric meters without service. A meter is usually one home or business.
Why is there no statewide total?
Different sources count differently and report at different times, so adding them together would produce a number no source published.
How current is the statewide table?
The table shows when it was retrieved, and each row shows when ODIN received that utility’s data.
Does this include TVA?
TVA generates and transmits power. Outages to homes and businesses are reported by the local utilities that deliver it, which is what this page lists.
Can I report an outage here?
No. Report outages to your electric utility.
Why is a utility missing from the statewide table?
The table lists only utilities with customers out at the time of the reading. A utility with no current outages does not appear.
Where can I see restoration estimates?
On the utility pages, where the utility’s own map provides an estimated restoration time.
Where the data for power outages comes from
Every reading is credited to its source, with the time it was taken. Corrections and source questions go to the sources page.
